The Symbolism of the Blue Heart
Paige Bradley-Pecoul | MAR 5, 2024

It all goes back to House of Blues New Orleans in the mid to late 90’s.
I was a senior in college, studying World Religion and getting deep into Eastern philosophy. I took a job waiting tables at House of Blues and quickly learned the meaning of community. The company mottos, “Love All Serve All”, and "Unity in Diversity" created a atmosphere of connection and support like no place I had ever worked. The staff had each other's backs on and off the clock. We became family.
Literally.
I met my husband, Todd, on my first day of employment. Our relationship was forged amongst the folk art, live music, and eastern influence of the HoB.
Fast forward to the era of cell phones, text messages, and emoji’s. By this time, Todd and I had three kids, a mortgage, and individual careers. In the midst of our busy days, we'd periodically send each other a blue heart to connect and say "Hello!" or "I love you!" We chose the blue heart over red heart because we met at the House of Blues.
Todd left this world in the fall of 2021. At first, the blue hearts stopped coming. It was during this lonely time that I got a tattoo to remind me of our enduring connection. I shared it's meaning with those who inquired. Over time, supportive and loving friends, many of whom can be traced back to those early days, began to include a blue heart when we had an exchange that evoked Todd. My daughters started using it, too. Each time it came through, it was a comfort to me, a promise of enduring connection, and a reminder of the community of support swirling around me.
When the decision to open the studio was made, it was already named.
Community. Connection. Love.
This is the spirit in which Blue Heart Yoga and Wellness was founded. It is what I offer and hope to receive by practicing and sharing these teachings from my mended heart to yours.
May we all feel supported, connected, and loved.
Aho (and so it is)!
See you on your mats,
P
